TIMES ARE HARD, LET'S HELP WHERE WE CAN," SONKO APPEALS.
Touched by the moving story that aired on Citizen Tv of a student who scored highly in the recent KCPE who was being forced to repeat class 8 for lack of fees, former Nairobi's Governor, offered to clear his 1st term fees and shopping. In a long post, the former county boss acknowledged the high cost of living that is keeping thousands out of class and urged other leaders to join him with the good gesture "He scored 405 marks in his KCPE exams but ati coz his father is a boda boda rider na mamake ni mboch they can't afford to pay his school fees for him to join form one at Kabianga Secondary School and he's being forced to repeat class 8.
Currently the economy is bad kila mtu ako na shida zake including myself mpaka this time round nalipia fees za my own kids and the orpans I have adopted in installments. I'm not trying to play any PR or outshine any leaders but since I know what umaskini na uhastla means I say and declare that the devil is a liar this boy will report to school today. Thanks to Citizen TV for giving me the boy's parents contacts. I have done the necessary communication with the parents and the school's deputy principal na already I have paid via the school's mpesa paybill term one fees in full. I have already agreed with the boy's parents to go to the nearest shopping center with the school's requirement list where I will pay for the needed items via mpesa again.
All this effort is just to make sure we don’t lose the young man and his ambitions or demoralize his efforts by having him repeat class 8 after scoring such great results.
I know it takes a village to raise a child, so even as I have paid for the first term and doing the shopping so that he gets into school, I call upon my good friends who are leaders in the Western region especially the area Mp, my good friend H.E Ken Lusaka among others to join hands with me so that this boy’s future is secured through keeping him in school," read his post.
