Kabaa's Lucky Graduands: Youth in Machakos County benefit technologically from Kabaa Digital Resource center
Various youth from Machakos county were over the weekend awarded with certificates at a colorful ceremony following their successful completion of digital studies. The students who had enrolled at Kabaa digital resource center, received a further equipment and financial boost from donors to help them facilitate their operations and set up their businesses. Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO), a grassroots movement that catalyzes large-scale transformation in urban slums based in Kibera, donated 20 desktop machines to the institution to facilitate learning of future intakes.
Speaking during the event, the institutions founder and patron Ms Angela Mueni Munyasya urged the local youths to enroll at the institution to acquire skills necessary to make them self sufficient giving them a chance to be self employed. "We are gearing towards building a creative economy to ensure that the young people can create job opportunities for themselves and others especially during these tough times. We ask all those interested to register with us for free of charge," she said.
Present during the graduation included the youth corporate and economic forum (YoCED), representatives from Shofco, American Friends of Kenya who also donated books and pledged to equip the local library to further promote the reading culture within the community.
