Kenyans have lauded former Nairobi's Governor Mike Sonko after his intervention in helping female boxer Congestina Achieng recover from rehabilitation. Conjestina, who had given Kenyans some of the best boxing matches to watch. She became the first Kenyan woman to hold an international title. Unfortunately, her career was cut short by mental issues that she had been battling. Soon after learning about her deteriorating condition, Sonko offered to check her into the the Mombasa Women Rehabilitation Facility and also cleared all her costs. After her condition which was detected as paranoid schizophrenia, she had retreated to her rural home in Gem, Siaya. Sonko then sent his rescue team to fly the boxing legend to Mombasa where she underwent treatment. In her most recent interview, Congestina's health has greatly improved and she has even added some weight. Netizens took to social media and showered the former county boss for his concern and kind gesture in getting her from her grave state.
President William Ruto has waived the hospital bill incurred by the late veteran journalist Catherine Kasavuli, KBC anchor John Jacob has confirmed. In a tweet, Kioria expressed gratitude to the Head of State for helping offset the bill. "Great thanks to our President who has waived the hospital bill incurred by my colleague Catherine Kasavuli. May her soul continue to rest in peace," he wrote. The family sought the help of well-wishers to offset an outstanding Ksh4 million bill accrued during Kasavuli's stay and treatment in the hospital. A requiem mass for the late journalist will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at the Friends International Church along Ngong Road in Nairobi. Kasavuli's remains will then be transported to Vihiga county where the final service will take place at her rural home at Tigoi Primary School on Saturday, January 14.
