The Kenyan passport is now the 73rd most powerful passport in the world after falling two places in the quarterly global mobility index report released on Wednesday by London-based firm Henley & Partners.
Despite falling two places, the Kenyan passport retained its spot from last year as the eighth most powerful travel document in Africa in the index that ranks 199 global passports according to the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa or nations where they can get a visa on arrival
According to the report, Kenyans can travel to 73 countries without having visas up from 72 in 2022.
The Mauritius passport is the strongest in Africa according to the rankings which placed it at position 34th globally.
South Africa's came in second continentally and 53rd globally followed by Botswana which was ranked 63rd overall.
Namibia, Lesotho and eSwatini came in fourth, fifth and sixth continentally but respectively ranked 67th, 69th and 71st globally.
Malawi (72 globally), Tanzania (74), Zambia (75) and Uganda (78) rounded off the top ten most powerful passports in Africa according to the report.
Globally, Japan's passport took the number one slot as the strongest passport with the report revealing that holders of the Asian country's passport can travel to 193 destinations without having visas.
Germany and Spain are tied on 190 destinations, followed by Finland, Italy and Luxembourg at 189.
Austria, Denmark, Netherlands and Sweden all came in at fifth globally, while France, Ireland, Portugal, and United Kingdom tied at position 6.
The weakest passport according to the index is Afghanistan's with the document's holders only being able to travel to 27 destinations without visas.
